Hazardous Waste Management Services Case Study
Abstract
Levy Realty Advisors, Inc. retained GeoTech to dispose of several hazardous chemicals used by their facility, L & D Beauty Supply, Inc in Broward County, Florida. The scope of work included: removal, packaging, and disposal of hazardous material, such as acetone, isopropyl alcohol, and various other non-hazardous L & D Beauty supplies.
Discussion and Conclusion
GeoTech mobilized to the site and conducted a visual inspection, characterizing all of the potential hazards on site. GeoTech personnel conducted an Environmental Health and Safety meeting with all GeoTech and other personnel to discuss the work plan and site safety conditions. Following the safety meeting, GeoTech conducted an air emission test inside the subject unit to verify that oxygen, carbon dioxide, and volatile organic compound emissions were all within the state regulation limit. After all gas emissions were determined to pose no threat to human health or environmental risk, GeoTech prepared approximately 20 steel drums approved for holding hazardous materials. Approximately 192 gallons of acetone were packaged and prepared for offsite disposal. All necessary hazardous and non-hazardous waste profile sheets were completed and all materials were disposed of in accordance with all local, county, state, and federal regulations. All packaging and disposal of hazardous material previously stored on site was completed on schedule and within the required budget, without any additional expenditures.
